SENIA International is a global network dedicated to supporting international schools in developing inclusive and responsive systems for diverse learners. Through professional learning, collaborative networks, and practical resources, SENIA works with educators and school leaders to strengthen how schools identify and respond to learning variability across linguistic and academic contexts.
In many international schools, the learning support and English as an Additional Language (EAL) teams support overlapping student populations, yet their work is not always integrated within a shared framework. This can result in fragmented approaches to assessment, intervention, and monitoring of student progress. SENIA promotes structures that encourage alignment between departments through the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), co-planning practices, and shared responsibility for student outcomes.
Within an MTSS framework, schools are able to organize supports in a way that is systematic, data-informed, and responsive across tiers of instruction. This approach supports collaboration between EAL and learning support educators, enabling them to jointly analyze student data, design targeted interventions, and evaluate progress over time. Co-planning is positioned as a critical practice, allowing educators to integrate expertise in language development and learning differences to better support multilingual learners.
SENIA International recognizes the important contributions of the Multilingual Learning Research Center (MLRC) in advancing research and practice in multilingual education. As schools continue to serve increasingly diverse student populations, MLRC’s work helps deepen understanding of language development, instructional design, and equitable access to learning. SENIA supports these efforts by helping schools translate research into practice, particularly in the areas of collaboration between EAL and learning support teams. Through professional learning and shared resources, SENIA works with educators to apply research-informed strategies in ways that are practical, context-sensitive, and responsive to the day-to-day realities of international schools.
In addition to its professional learning offerings, SENIA facilitates connections between schools and partner organizations, fostering ongoing dialogue around inclusive and multilingual education. Through these efforts, SENIA supports schools in building collaborative cultures where coordinated systems of support can more effectively meet the needs of multilingual learners.
